New Delhi [India], July 27 (ANI): International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) India President Rima Hooja on Saturday expressed herself on preserving world heritage amidst climate change and said stopping climate change is beyond individual control but together it can happen.
“A lot is being happening and people are very curious. One of the things that was over yesterday and today is the actual list of inscriptions on the World Heritage site. Beyond that a lot of things are happening like deciding on which sites require additional protection, and what areas need to be considered for the future. I want to congratulate the entire country for the Charaideo Maidam site in Assam as it has become our 43rd site,” said Rima Hooja while speaking to ANI.
“We also have other activities outside the session. Between 1-3 pm and after 6 pm, there was a discussion on crucial things like climate change, documentation, and how digital heritage can be used. There is an exhibition of artefacts that were illegally taken back. There are also exhibitions of various states of India that have been showcasing their food and culture,” Hooja added.
Speaking about sustainable development and climate change, she stated, “As we all know the United Nations (UN) brought into sustainable development goals which aims at averting climate change, so we also discussed it here. I attended a session that stated that the world temperature will rise by two degrees Celsius. What is important is how we can work to make things better. Stopping climate change is beyond individual control but together it can happen”
Highlighting the significance of UNESCO, Rima Hooja said, “There is research happening on the traditions in the entire world and I want to state that the UNESCO knowledge base is free for use by the entire world.” (ANI)
