Guwahati (Assam) [India], August 24 (ANI): Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika met the Nagaon rape survivor at a hospital on August 23 and enquired about her health condition. He also assured the family that strict action would be taken against the perpetrators.
He said that the victim is recovering, quoting the doctors.
On August 22, the Minister visited the residence of the rape survivor and took stock of the situation.

In a post on X on Friday evening, Hazarika said, “Enquired about the health condition of the young victim of Dhing who is undergoing treatment in Nagaon. Doctor informed the victim is recovering. Promised everyone that our government will not spare the criminals who committed such heinous crimes.”
In another post, he said, “Visited the residence of the victim of Dhing incident and took stock of the situation. Ensured the family that under the leadership of HCM Dr @himantabiswa strictest action will soon be taken against the perpetrators.”
A minor was allegedly gang-raped on her way home from tuition on August 22 in the Dhing area of Assam.
According to reports, locals found the girl in a semi-conscious state by the side of a road and immediately admitted her to a hospital.
Meanwhile, police said they have recovered the body of the prime accused from a pond on August 23 a day after allegedly escaping from police custody.
Swapnaneel Deka, Superintendent of Police of Nagaon district told ANI over the phone that on Friday police arrested Tafazul Islam in connection with the case.
“When a police team took him last night to the spot for investigation where the incident took place, the prime accused tried to flee and jumped into a pond located nearby the site. Our police personnel engaged in a search operation and with the help of the SDRF team we recovered his body from the pond today morning,” he said.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday, “When there is any atrocity against women, we need to take prompt action.”
Assam Congress MLA Abdur Rashid Mandal told ANI on August 23, “It is a shameful matter. I demand that the government and the police administration arrest the culprit, put them in jail and they should be hanged till death.”
Assam Director General of Police GP Singh said on August 23 that a case has been registered under the POCSO Act. “The victim girl is 14 years old.”
Following the directions of CM Sarma, DGP visited the site and later visited the house of the rape survivor and spoke with the family members.
This comes amid nationwide outrage over the murder and alleged sexual assault of a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 in Kolkata. (ANI)
