Gangapur (Rajasthan) [India], August 24 (ANI): Amid the heavy rains in Gangapur, a 65-year-old man died on Friday as he was swept away due to the strong currents of the river, Gangapur Police officials confirmed.
According to officials, the person has been identified as Ramnivas Meena. The officials confirmed that he was returning home after grazing his cattle when he slipped into the river and lost his life.
Sub-Inspector Bharat Singh of Sadar Thana confirmed that a person was swept away in the river, after which the officials immediately reached the site to assess the situation and rescue the person.
“Yesterday, Ramnivas Meena was grazing his cattle from Gawadi Kala; at night, the water level had increased in Anikat river). He died after he lost his balance and fell into the river”, said Sub Inspector Singh.
The Patwari of village, Suman Lata Sharma, also confirmed the tragic incident. “Meena went in the morning to graze his cattle, and in the evening, when he did not return but the cattle did, people started looking for him,” said Sharma.
He also confirmed that the family is not demanding anything from the government, but they will be getting compensation and relief according to the state government rules.
“There are no demands of the family, they are already grieving as one member of their family has passed away. The family will be getting their compensation and any relief as laid out by the government,” added Suman Lata Sharma.
The villagers have alleged that they received little to no help from the administration. The villagers also alleged that they rescued the body from the river themselves late at night.
