Jehanabad (Bihar) [India], August 12 (ANI): Two children who were injured in a stampede that claimed 7 lives and left several others injured at Baba Siddhanath Temple in Makhdumpur, Jehanabad district, on Monday are out of danger and in stable condition, said the mother of the duo on Monday.
The two children were identified as Rakhi Kumari and Abhishek Kumar.
Julie Devi, the mother of the two, spoke to ANI and said, “Both of my children, a son and a daughter, were injured in the incident. Right now, their situation is stable. The treatment is underway.”
At least seven people died and nine others got injured in a stampede at Baba Siddhanath Temple in Makhdumpur, Jehanabad district, in the early hours of Monday.
Confirming the incident, Jehanabad District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey told ANI, “At least seven people died and nine were injured in a stampede at Baba Siddhanath Temple in Makhdumpur, Jehanabad district. We are monitoring everything and now the situation is under control.
“Speaking to ANI, Divakar Kumar Vishwakarma, Station House Officer (SHO) Jehanabad, said, “DM and SP visited the spot and they are taking stock of the situation. A total of seven people have died. We are meeting and enquiring about the family members (of the people dead and injured). We are trying to identify the people who have died. After this, we will send the bodies for a post-mortem.”
Meanwhile, Vikas Kumar, SDO Jehanabad, expressed his grief over the incident, saying, “It is a sad incident. All the arrangements were tight. We are taking stock of the situation and will then further inform you about this.”
Earlier, RJD MLA Kumar Krishna Mohan alias Suday said that Jehanabad’s Superintendent of Police (SP) and District Magistrate (DM) were “responsible” for the death of seven people in a stampede.
The RJD MLA also demanded compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the victims on Monday.
“This is a sad incident and the people responsible for this are Jehanabad’s SP and DM. The Jehanabad district administration is responsible for this incident. We will meet the injured and the family of the deceased. We will take this issue forward. Compensation should be given. They (the administration) have killed people here,” Mohan said.
He further said that this was a major tourist destination in Magadh.
“After this incident, the post-mortem was done in a hurry. We will not allow this kind of negligence in Jehanabad. A compensation of Rs 10 lakh should be given to victims. The ruling government has not even informed the opposition about the incident,” he added. (ANI)
