Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 22 (ANI): President of the Bharatiya Samaj Sevak Sangathan, Chaudhary Ifrahim Hussain, has written to the Chief Secretary of the Government of India on Tuesday, raising objections to certain arguments made during the recent Supreme Court hearing on the Waqf Act.
Speaking to ANI, he said that in his letter, he had strongly opposed two key points raised by the opposition. First, the claim that non-Muslims should not be allowed to serve on Waqf boards, and second, regarding the registration of old mosques that have not been officially recorded since ancient times.
“These objections are baseless, unconstitutional, and un-Islamic,” Hussain said. “Islam does not prohibit non-Muslims from being part of the Waqf Board, especially if they act with honesty and integrity.”
Hussain also criticised the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi. “Allah has ordered the removal of dishonest individuals. Those who work with honesty and truth, regardless of religion, are far better than people with the character of the Muslim Personal Law Board and Owaisi,” he added.
He also alleges that land worth thousands of crores located in prime areas remains unaudited and unregistered. “The annual income of the Waqf Board, which is approximately Rs 12,000 crore, is unaccounted for,” he said.
Hussain said,” For the purpose of stealing, they did not register themselves, and could have been done, but deliberately did not do it and retained control over valuable properties.” He emphasised that such actions contradict both legal and religious principles.
Hussain urged the government to address the issue in the Supreme Court thoroughly. ” So, the opposition’s points are baseless, non-constitutional and non-Islamic. We are sending this letter to the government,” he said.
Earlier, Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske said that the Waqf Act is about regulating national property and not interfering with Muslim religious rights.
Mhaske also accused the opposition of spreading misinformation and said that the amendment aims to benefit poor Muslims. Speaking to ANI, Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske said, “Making laws is the work of Parliament. If any law is made against the Constitution, the court has the right to raise objections. I don’t know what Nishikant Dubey said… Some people, including Imams and certain Muslim organisations, have approached the Supreme Court claiming that the Centre has violated Articles 25 to 28, and 29 to 30, and that their religious freedom has been infringed upon. That’s why the issue is being heard in the Supreme Court… However, the government maintains that it has not violated any such provisions…
Article 29 pertains to educational institutions, and Article 30 to cultural ones. The Waqf Board is not an educational or cultural institution — it deals with property… Hence, we have the right to legislate on this. We are not interfering with anyone’s religion or rituals.”
He further added, “The opposition is spreading misinformation that this is against the Muslim community… This concerns national property that currently lacks proper legal regulation in the Constitution. We are amending the law to ensure that poor people from the Muslim community benefit. That’s why we believe we have the right to make laws. And the government has stated this clearly before the Supreme Court.”
His comments follow the controversy surrounding BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s recent statements, in which he accused the Supreme Court of overstepping its authority. President Droupadi Murmu had given her assent to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which was passed by Parliament during the budget session. (ANI)
