New Delhi [India], January 7 (ANI): The New Delhi District Election Officer has raised concerns over alleged pressure from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, including Raghav Chadha and Sanjay Singh, who have been frequently visiting the officer’s office to ask for personal details of objectors.
This, the officer claims, is not mandated to be shared as per Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines.
The Officer wrote to Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer raising concern about political interference by AAP leaders amid their claims of voter deletion ahead of Assembly elections.
“Representatives of Aam Aadmi Party have been frequently visiting my office and are asking for personal details of objectors which is not mandated to be shared as per ECI guidelines,” READ the District Election Officer’s letter.
DEO also accused AAP of attempting to put pressure by “asking for personal details of objectors and other such information that falls outside the purview of routine operations,” the letter to the CEO of Delhi read.
The officer also alleged that Chief Minister Atishi has been calling for meetings without specifying an agenda, which has raised concerns about potential political interference.
These allegations come amid AAP’s claims of large-scale voter deletion in the New Delhi Assembly constituency.
“Furthermore, the CM of GNCTD has been calling me for meetings without a specified agenda and in the past also, has called me for meetings without any agenda, wherein discussion regarding electoral rolls was held,” DEO wrote.
The District Election Officer has written to Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer, seeking guidance on whether to attend meetings called by the ruling government without a prior agenda.
“Therefore, your kind office is requested to provide insight and guidance in this matter whether I am allowed to attend meetings called by the ruling Govt. without any prior meeting agenda or any other appropriate action as deemed fit by authority,” DEO wrote.
Earlier in the day, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal claimed that a “Large-Scale” fraud in voter addition and deletions in the New Delhi Assembly seat is taking place.
In a post on X, Kejriwal cited a letter from Chief Minister Atishi sent to Delhi Chief Electoral Officer.
“Large-scale fraud taking place in voter additions and deletions in the New Delhi assembly. Delhi CM Atishi ji writes this letter to CEC presenting evidence and seeking time to meet,” he said.
CM Atishi, in her letter to the Delhi CEO, said, “I am writing to urgently draw your attention towards a significant surge in voter addition and deletion applications in the New Delhi Assembly Constituency over the past few days.”
She mentioned that from October 29, 2024, to January 2, 2025, a total of 13,276 Form-6 were received.
“From October 29 to January 2, 6,166 Form-7 were received,” CM Atishi said.
“Total no of votes, as per draft electoral rolls published after summary revision on 29 October 2024, is 1,06,873. Number of votes sought to be deleted is 6,166, which is 5.77 per cent of total votes,” she added.
The assembly elections in Delhi are likely to be held in February 2025. AAP won 62 out of the 70 seats in the 2020 assembly elections and BJP secured eight seats. (ANI)
