Panchkula (Haryana) [India], August 4 (ANI): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday attended the Raahgiri Day programme in Panchkula.
While speaking at the event, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini appealed to the youth to join Raahgiri programmes and stay away from drugs.
He also extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the people present at this Raahgiri programme and the people of Panchkula.
“Raahgiri programmes are organised every Sunday… I would also like to appeal to the youth to join such programs and stay away from drugs… Today employment is being given in the state without any corruption. Today all our players from Haryana who have brought medals have brought laurels to Haryana and India in the whole world… I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the people present in this Raahgiri program and the people of Panchkula,” Haryana CM said.
Raahgiri is a weekly event where streets are closed to allow people to cycle, play, dance openly, perform yoga, and do aerobics.
As per the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Raahgiri Day provides citizens with the opportunity to reclaim their streets, connect with their community, celebrate their city, and therefore reclaim their lives.
The Raahgiri Day concept is inspired by “Ciclovia” held weekly in Bogota, Columbia, and now popular all over the world, known by different names, viz. Open Streets, Summer Streets, etc. The streets identified for Raahgiri Day are cordoned off for motorised transport and made safe for the citizens to cycle, walk, run, skate, play and enjoy the streets. Children and adults are invited to bike, skate, run, and walk; to partake in community leisure activities such as street games, and street dancing; to learn yoga, aerobics and Zumba; and to come together as a community and celebrate life, as per Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.
Earlier in July, a ‘Raahgiri’ Day programme was organised at Arjun Chowk, in Haryana. (ANI)
