Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], October 23 (ANI): The second group of 26 Indo-Tibetan Police Force (ITBP), representing 14 battalions from ten states, began five-day training program in Meliponiculture on Wednesday at ICAR-National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources (ICAR-NBAIR) in Bengaluru.
Meliponiculture, often known as stingless beekeeping, is the process of raising, caring for, and managing native stingless bees.
As per the official statement, the goal of this training for ITBP personnel is to help the tribal communities in areas affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE) to enhance their income and achieve self-sufficiency,
The training program is initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture.
The first group of 20 ITBP members completed their training in June of this year at ICAR-NBAIR.
During the training program in June, Ramesh Chand, Team Lead from ITBP, lauded the expected benefits from the training. The training covered both theoretical and practical aspects of meliponiculture, including the biology and behaviour of stingless bees, value addition, and marketing of honey.
Dr K. Subaharan, Principal Scientist and Head of the Division of Germplasm Conservation and Utilization, along with subject experts Drs. A.N. Shylesha and T.M. Shivalingaswamy participated in the program. (ANI)
